Loop-to-Loop Difference Count

Bugman pops in. "This is a count of every object that is in a different place from the original Loop. Perhaps certain things imprint on certain other objects and gravitate to them." He looks at the plethora of items you carry on you. "You account for a lot of them, it seems."

Loop Re-activation Count since Initial Activation

Bugman is already talking as you reach to activate this information. "This is how many times the Loop has reached the ReLoop deadline, and activated."

Emergency ReLoop Count since Initial Activation

"These are situations where every active user ceased to function, and the Loop began again from the last successful activation."

Areas corrupted

"These are sections within the Loop structure that can no longer be accessed as the system is breaking down. They seem to be completely empty - they even lack the background Spiral signature that exists in empty space."

Areas unable to scan

Bugman hesitates. "That seems.. odd. It is not a corrupted area, but due to corruption, there is no physical way to enter this area-" He stops. "Further information is unavailable."

That was really abrupt. Hmm.

Anomaly Count

"The Anomalies you have accessed are 'empty spaces' in all readings, yet still move through some intelligent force. They lack a Spiral signature, but are driven by an animus for reasons unknown. That shouldn't be possible - for all practical purposes, they are Nothing."

You inquire about the other two Anomalies. "I can only give you information on objects you can identify."

You stride with purpose to your research chamber, klaxons blaring. Bumping into a fellow scientist as she rushes down the hall, cradling a large stack of papers and equipment, your gaze meets [[PRIMARY USER 1]] for a brief moment, and you are about to say something, when she brushes her red hair aside and hurries away. You continue to the center of the facility, to the dais that holds atop a pedestal the pinnacle of your career - a thrumming, circular amulet, crackling with power. You grab it, and hold it to your chest as screens light up all across the facility, battle plans unfolding.
..your vision whirls..
You walk past your crew to your ship, which powers up at your arrival. They spread out, a young boy manning the helm, the others, young and old, male and female, take their positions, and within moments you are skimming across the water, to what might as well be the other side of the world.
..the scenery blends together..
You join the battle, already in progress. Ships fan out, launching both attacks and fellow Ninja high into the air, fighting their giant, monstrous foes. Crackles of energy burn bright as your crew prepares to assault the vanguard, when the skies darken. A huge bolt of rippling energy strikes down from on high, and a gigantic shadowed many-tailed Fox [[ANOMALY 2]] scatters your fellow Ninja ships like so much kindling, and as you order a full assault, more bolts strike like hammers from the sky, each containing another monstrous creature [[ANOMALIES 3-10]], endlessly black, like holes in the universe.
..the battle whirls around you..
The scenery before you plays out as it had before, but now you can see what the young man saw. Your helmsman, skewered by a wave of spikes unleashed by the fox, you yourself injured from the attack. You draw a powerful relic from your coat and launch yourself at the beast, and you hurl it into its eye as you fall back to the deck. It roars, raking the deck with destructive force. Looking around and yelling orders, you see that the battle is going poorly on all sides, and the monsters have lost all sense of reason, attacking everything indiscriminately. You swallow dryly, and activate the device that has attached itself to you.
Loop Activation Commences T-00:00:11
As the hum increases to a deafening level, you take one last look at the Fox - which, for some reason, has paused for a moment, the darkness draining from its eyes [[PRIMARY USER 1]], taking one last look at *you* - and realization dawns as the Loop Activates, a flash of starry sky spiraling into a blinding light.

Hypothesis 11 Overview

The Loop is non-virtual.

The energy released on initial activation failed to synchronize with multiple Users, and encompassed a large portion of physical space, causing it to reposition itself to the previous state specified by Loop conditionals. Upon culmination, the Loop repeats this action until actively de-commissioned by the user. The Physical boundary of the Loop extends outward from the projecting mechanism in a lemniscate ("That means infinity symbol", Bugman says helpfully, reading over your shoulder) controlled by a high-energy shell.

Upon complete Loop re-activation, Spiral Signatures are not affected by the system, allowing User, whose signature resonates with the system to 'remember' previous actions. Items attuned to the User also continue to maintain proximity, causing Loops to be non-physical. Pure Signature is also unaffected, causing manifested creations and intelligences lacking physical form that existed at both first and last points in time to maintain memory of previous actions.

Energy required to contain current corruption upon standard deactivation no longer available.

Loop culmination no longer possible. Failsafe option authorized.

Failsafe Procedure Overview >

Failsafe Overview

Failsafe consists of physical shutdown mechanic placed at the point of Loop activation. Usage of Failsafe by any authorized user permanently reverses all Loop Architecture, leaving the User with knowledge up to that point in absolute time. As the Loop is physical, it will instead place all available matter at that point in absolute time.

Review Successful Loops >

Successful Loops

You quickly flick through all of the times you've Looped, all the places you've been and triumphs you've had, each overshadowed by a giant countdown timer, that hits zero just as you remember meeting that strange figure and being sent back, to do it all again..

Review Incomplete Loops >

Incomplete Loops

You see yourself, and many who look like yourself, in situations you don't remember - cornered, scared, all failing in some fatal way. In each, as life leaves the body, the timer freezes, and the world flashes bright, before the playback cuts out.

As the thousands of playbacks whirl by, you catch the same event occuring again and again - at the summit of the very plateau of the facility you are in, Timmy strikes you down, over and over and over and over again, the same outcome, thousands upon thousands of times.

You delve into the origin of this shared demise, and find that just before it started to happen, you see that the playbacks end with Timmy, close by your side, writing in your Note. You don't remember seeing anything like that in there!

Look in your Note >

You take a moment, and rummage through your many belongings, digging out your Note. You flip through it, and it contains just what you've written in it - until you get to the last page.

It looks like there is a false back. Picking at it with a fingernail, you peel away the inside cover..

..and there it is. Written in at first a child's handwriting, layer after layer, sometimes in blood, sometimes in a hasty script, are messages from Timmy to his past self.

"Deactivate your Shadow Clone. You will remember."

"Don't believe this one's lies. They are responsible for your demise."

"You have to stop them, and you can never ever fail - or they'll remember forever."

"When you get to the Island, find the darkness, and you will hear His voice again."

Written all around the margins are line after line about you. Specifics about what you've done, and exact moments when you've been vulnerable. Crude drawings of traps. Exact timings and key phrases..

..and above all, messages to himself, saying to be strong, and that this way is the only thing he can do to stay alive.

Every time through, he must have touched the book at some point, and the knowledge and memory of the existence of this page flowed back into him - creating the monster that you know today.

Bugman looks over your shoulder at some of the writings. "These writings explain events that are contrary to one another - this was written over multiple Loops. It also speaks of places that are now lost to Corruption - I can analyze this, and deduce the end results. I will run Statistics right now."

"The Barrier surrounding the Loop is not impenetrable - you could analyze it and track weak points, and be able to break through, assuming a fast enough vehicle made of the right materials. You'd be able to get into a sort of 'penumbra', an area not reset by the Loop, but still blocked off from the outside world."

Return to Diagnostics >

Corruption Rate

Bugman speaks as a whirl of data flies by. "The Corruption is spreading, and spreading fast. Each Loop brings the whole thing closer to a catastrophic failure."

You are about to ask, when he continues. "Failure would be.." He pauses. "Bad."

"Very, very bad. The Loop would take all the matter contained in it and rip it away from the regular Spiral Signature it generates, leaving it.. open. To infection."

He brings up a still image from the creation of the battle just before the first fateful activation. "These creatures are what you get from just a small amount of matter being removed from the fabric of energy that runs through reality. Your four friends are now controlled by the same dark animus. If the entire world were to go the same direction.. Bad."

He looks over the anomalies. "This count isn't right. One is missing. Anomaly.. 10."

Research Missing Anomaly >

"It appears that one of the Anomalies is slightly different than the others - this one, here." A picture of Toroko, who you've fought before in the Fields, appears. "There's still a Signature there. Perhaps it has to do with.. yes, the infection occurred against the subject's will. Somewhere inside, it is still fighting against whatever is driving that emptiness. That probably holds true for those four new ones as well."

(new ones? oh, boy.)

A crack reverberates in the back of your mind. "The entire place is coming down. Those things are going to be in here, soon, and based on what I've seen, you have no chance against them - you can't use your current strengths against them, they are immune to the Awesome-based abilities you currently possess. The only record of any attacks that have done anything to affect them are the first Primary User's hand-to-hand abilties.. and the same researcher that was turned."

"I can track down where that particular Anomaly currently is, by filtering out the other ones." Bugman starts analyzing a number of data flows..

Anomaly Overview >

"The Anomalies are:
One: The animus.
Two: The Eleventy-Billion Tailed Fox, controlled by Anomaly One.
Three through Nine: Seven of the Eight Phases, created by the same process as Anomaly Two.
Ten: Toroko.
Eleven: The in-Loop output of the unnamed 'red-haired ninja girl' that became the Fox, and the researcher known as 'the Flash' - you.

"The only chance you have is surviving this onslaught until you Loop, and then using the knowledge you've gained here to somehow get outside the Barrier, get back in where the Failsafe is, and activating it. Doing that will exit the Loop at that point in time, and the two Users, with knowledge of the war's inevitable outcome, may be able to avert it."

"Of course, that will dissolve your self back into those two users."

Bugman pauses, and you see what could be emotion in his normally implacable expression. "Given the alternative, the sacrifice seems worthwhile."

"The plateau has reached its limit. It is about to come down on this entire facility, deactivating this gate, destroying what is left of the facility, and you, if you aren't prepared. There is a path to survival within this Loop. Meet me in the Fields, at the representation of the other side of this world - the Hidden Darkside Holy Ground.
