Glowslinging

How to unlock:

To unlock Glowslinging, you need to complete the quest The Light Fantastic. To complete this, you need

Finishing the quest unlocks Glowslinging, and gets you the Overworld theme Power of Sound, which gives you +1 Glowslinging Attack Levels.

For an introduction and guide to progressing through Glowslinging, take a look at the GS Guide.

Practice your Glowslinging:

You can practice Glowslinging by going to the Billycon main page: the option is at the top.

Travel the land, testing your skills against other warriors!
Practice your Glowslinging >

You can pick different area to fight from: each has a number of Turfs you need to have to unlock it, a Base Levels value (the minimum level in each stat that opponents will have), and Base Talent (how much base Talent a win earns you). If you get 11 wins in a area, you unlock the option to fight that area's boss: defeating the boss turns that area into a Turf.

Fighting:

A fight consists of turns in which your opponent and you each pick an Attack Skill to use. Each skill has its own special effect, and defeats one skill and crushes another skill.
Each level in the skill you selected gives you a single die: if your skill defeats the one your opponent picked, you get +1 level, and if your skill crushes the one your opponent picked, you get +2 levels. The base range of the die is 6: in addition, your Spin is added to the range, and if you've already used the move once before, your Risk is subtracted from the range. You start with 1 Spin and 0 Risk, and some skills, equipment and EX attacks change your and/or your opponent's Spin and/or Risk.
The player with the highest sum wins and deals damage to the other player (in case of a tie, both take damage):

  • Base 1
  • -1 if both used the same move
  • +1 if the damage-dealing player used a Skill which crushes the Skill the damage-taking player used
  • +1 if the damage-dealing player used the Alpha Cancel Skill
  • Some abilities, items, and EX Attacks can also influence the damage taken by both parties.

This repeats until one or both players are reduced to 0 or fewer HP. Your starting HP is 5 + 2x your Flipping Out level.
After a certain amount of turns (starting in turn 40 on Bridge), both players will take 1 damage each turn ("You both start to tire!") .
Every turn, each player's EX Gauge increases by 20 points (with a maximum of 300). If the opponent's move defeats their own, an additional 20 points are added. Finally, if the opponent's move crushes their own, 40 additional points are added, to a total of 60 points. When a player's EX Gauge is high enough, they can use EX Attacks along with their move, which uses up 1 to 3 "EX" (1 EX is 100 points on the EX Gauge). A player who uses an EX Attack does not gain any regular EX that turn.

See the Glowslinging Strategy Guide page for area-specific strategies and billy idol boss (particularly for the last one, who is a puzzle boss) strategies.

Gambits

Gambits are special move sequences that can be used while glowslinging. All known sequences give a boost to the player's EX gauge.

Name Bonus Sequence Example
Triple Triad +20 EX Use any attack 3 times in a row FA-FA-FA, GC-GC-GC
Crescendo +40 EX Use each attack once, in ascending order2 WR-TP-GC-FA-AC, GC-FA-AC-WR-TP
Denouement +40 EX Use each attack once, in descending order3 AC-FA-GC-TP-WR, GC-TP-WR-AC-FA
Deadly Rave +300 EX Use each attack twice in a row, in a specific order4 FA-FA-TP-TP-AC-AC-GC-GC-WR-WR

AutoSmash

After winning a lot in a turf, you can choose to "auto-win" duels.

  • When you win a battle in an area, no matter how many fights you spent on it, you get 1 Streak. This continues until you have 11 Streak.
  • When you lose / don't finish a battle in an area, and you have less than 11 Streak in that area, you lose all your Streak in that area.
  • if you have 11 Streak in an area, you may choose as your attack to A: set your opponent's HP to zero with your attack AND B: turn off the perfect victory bonus AND C: turn off the nail-biter bonus, by selecting 'AutoSmash'.

Getting the Nailbiter bonus (finishing a fight with 2 or less HP) also makes you lose your streak.

Fights

Winning fights earns you the base talent of the area in which you fought. A loss gives 1/4 the Talent of a win, rounded down.
Talent is used to increase your Attack Skills or Talent Skills, at a 1-Talent-for-1-XP ratio: however, you cannot spend Talent on an Attack Skill that is 2+ higher than another Attack Skill, and your Glowsticking level is the maximum level you may raise Attack Skills to with Talent. You can also spend Talent to learn EX Attacks or Abilities from your allies, which you can then equip.

Winning 8 fights in an area gives you appetite depending on the lowest area you fought in. After you have received the bonus, fighting in a lower turf does not "take away" the difference in appetite.

After Looping

You will need to reacquire allies of the at least the specified level in order to access their areas. Once you have won16 The Portal of Awesome you will always have access to it. Instead of winning a boss battle to level/acquire your allies, you merely have to win a fight in the appropriate area.
Nadeshiko (and likely Lil' Ro) do not have to be in your team in order to level by winning.
